Neroli Oud by Au Pays de la Fleur d’Oranger

Neroli Oud

Au Pays de la Fleur d’Oranger

Nose: Jean-Claud Gigodot, 2015

Neroli Oud kicks off as one would expect – with the punch of bergamot lightly wrapped up in orange blossom scent. Quickly,  the zesty punch of the opening softens, delicacy comes up with sweetness…

Hmmm… 15min on, and some disappointment creeps up… When the top notes whiff away, the heart is surprisingly ‘not yet there’. Few minutes more, slowly, a delicate trace of rose and jasmine finally develops enough to be sniffed.

Au Pays de la Fleur d’Oranger is a volatile fragrance; it may not be surprise, should it be cologne, but it is not. So it is a little disappointing to rim my nose dangerously close to the skin, to be able to feel anything. Sadly, after only few minutes the sillage of Neroli Oud is rather poor.

Jasmine and neroli are the main notes of the heart, no ‘candied fruit’ for me detectable as an individual trace. A couple of hours later, sweet and ‘juicy’ fruit mark emerges en passant, and then again, flowery neroli blossoms up. Still awaiting that oud to emerge…

Another hour, delicate flowers oudé linger on the skin. Neroli Oud from Au Pays de la Fleur d’Oranger remains definitely more on the neroli-flowery side; to my nose, oud is more a fantasy there, rather than an actual note. The perfume is pleasing, but then again, I am easy with the neroli and all orange variations, so…
